Some people I follow on Twitter have posted recordings of themselves reading poems and I very much enjoyed listening to them. It got me thinking that having a Twitter poetry night might be a nice idea.

“What would that involve?” you may well ask. I’m not really sure but what I was thinking was this:

1. Anyone who would like to join in…record yourself reading a poem and upload it to a site like audioboo.fm or soundcloud.com. If you’re feeling particularly brave you could do a video on youtube. It could be a poem that you’ve written yourself, or just one that you like. Or even one you don’t like if you’re feeling contrary. It could be something sad and beautiful or something whimsical and silly or something with ducks in it. Anything really. If someone wanted to do a limerick that would be brilliant.

2. If you do a recording, tweet it to @Poetry_Night, and I will put them all in a neat little pile.

3. Then on the night of Sunday 10th June, links to the poems will be tweeted from @Poetry_Night within the space of a few hours and we can pretend like Twitter is some kind of bohemian coffee house. Maybe there could be some 140 character tweet poems in between too. Okay, well that is the plan so far.

I know this is a ridiculous idea, but I think it might be fun. If you’re interested, let me know!
